ANAC Secretariat

The Africa Network for Associate Clinicians’ Secretariat is based in Lusaka, Zambia and is managed by Regional Director David Lusale.

At the country level, part-time Country Focal Persons work with existing national associate clinician organisations and coordinate activities for associate clinicians where no national bodies exist.

David Lusale

David Lusale is the Regional Director of the Africa Network for Associate Clinicians and has held this position since 2010. He is a Principal Lecturer in Reproductive Health at Chainama College of Health Sciences in Lusaka, Zambia, and has more than 15 years of experience as a Medical Licentiate in general practice, including experience in obstetrics and gynaecology.

David holds a Masters in International Health from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute. In Zambia, he serves on numerous professional bodies including the Health Professions Council of Zambia and Zambia Medical Licentiate Practitioners Association. At the global level, David has served as an expert member on the panel for the World Health Organization technical consultations on optimising the delivery of key interventions to attain Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5, and for the Network for Health (Netherlands), focusing on training.

Over the past two decades, David has contributed to several local and international initiatives and meetings focused on human resources for health and reproductive health, including task shifting emergency obstetric care to associate clinicians.

Paul Chungu

Paul Chungu, is the Programme Officer at the Africa Network for Associate Clinicians (ANAC) Secretariat.  He is a clinical officer by profession training. His initial appointment was with the Government of the Republic of Zambia, department (Ministry) of Health in particular. He worked as clinical instructor at a medical  college training clinical officers then transferred to the national AIDS,STI/TB and Leprosy Porgamme.

Paul has also worked for a number of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) dealing with HIV and AIDS and Community mobilisation for health seeking behaviour programmes, as progamme officer/manager. The organisations he worked for include, World Vision International (WVI), Zambia Country Office, Planned Parenthood Association of Zambia (PPAZ), an affiliate to the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), International HIV/AIDS Alliance (IAA), Zambia Country Programme, Catholic Relief Services and (CRS), Zambia Country Progamme and Concern World Wide (CWW), Zambia country Office.

Until his appointment, Paul was the Chief Executive Officer (Executive Director) of the Mental Health Association of Zambia (MHAZ).
